If Pretoria's Suburbs Shared a House, Who Would You Live With?
5 November 2026

Now that Rent-A-Store Hatfield is officially open, we thought it was time to get to know some of our new neighbours a little better. Serving surrounding areas such as Hatfield, Brooklyn, Lynnwood, Menlo Park, Silver Lakes and Centurion, we're getting to know the local neighbourhoods in the best way we know how: by imagining what they'd be like if they all shared a house. From the housemate who's always rushing between lectures to the one with a garage full of weekend adventure gear, every suburb has its own personality. The question is, which one would you get along with best?
Hatfield: The Student Who's Always Busy
Every shared house has that one housemate who's juggling approximately seventeen things at once. In this house, that's Hatfield.
Between assignments, part-time jobs, social events and late-night study sessions, Hatfield is rarely home long enough to notice the growing pile of textbooks next to the bed. There's a half-finished cup of coffee on the desk, a laundry basket that's become part of the furniture, and approximately four hours of sleep planned for the week.

Hatfield is ambitious, energetic and always on the move. Unfortunately, there's only so much you can fit into a student flat, especially when your belongings seem to multiply every time the semester starts.
If Hatfield had a storage unit, it would probably be full of last semester's notes, sports equipment, winter clothes and things that might come in handy one day.
Brooklyn: The Housemate with Impeccable Taste
Brooklyn is the housemate who believes a home should look like it belongs in a décor magazine. Everything has a place, the cushions are perfectly arranged, and the furniture has been carefully selected to complement the overall aesthetic.
There's just one problem. Brooklyn keeps buying beautiful things. A new chair here, a side table there, and suddenly the spare room is less of a guest bedroom and more of a furniture showroom. Brooklyn insists it's all part of a long-term design plan. We admire the vision. We're just not sure where everyone is supposed to sleep.
Lynnwood: The One Who Runs the Household
Every shared house needs someone who knows whose turn it is to buy milk, when the washing machine is running and exactly how long the electricity bill has been sitting unpaid. Enter Lynnwood.
Organised, dependable and always prepared, Lynnwood keeps the household running like a well-oiled machine. The pantry is stocked, the cleaning supplies are accounted for, and there's probably a spreadsheet somewhere tracking household expenses. But being prepared comes at a price. Between the spare bedding, kitchen appliances, children's toys, sports equipment and emergency supplies, the cupboards are starting to look a little crowded.
Menlo Park: The One with a New Hobby Every Month
Menlo Park is the housemate who arrives home one day announcing a brand-new hobby, complete with all the equipment needed to get started immediately.
Last month, it was pottery. Before that, it was cycling. This month, there's talk of photography, and next month could involve anything from trail running to woodworking.
There are bicycles in the garage, boxes of art supplies under the bed, a camera bag in the cupboard and enough abandoned hobby equipment to open a small second-hand shop.
Menlo Park promises that everything will get used again. Eventually. Until then, the rest of the house might appreciate a little extra storage space.
Silver Lakes: The One Who Lives the Good Life
Silver Lakes is the housemate who has their weekends planned before Friday even arrives. There's golf to play, a braai to host, a garden to enjoy and plenty of outdoor entertaining to fit in.
Their room is stylish, their outdoor furniture is immaculate, and there's always something happening at their place. The only downside? All that entertaining requires a surprising amount of stuff.
Between the golf clubs, garden equipment, outdoor cushions, camping gear and braai essentials, Silver Lakes has somehow managed to turn the garage into a second house.
Centurion: The Weekend Adventurer
Centurion doesn't believe in sitting still over the weekend. There's always a camping trip to plan, a mountain bike trail to explore or a DIY project waiting to happen.
The garage is packed with tools, folding chairs, bicycles, tents, cooler boxes and enough outdoor equipment to accommodate a small expedition.
Centurion is always ready for the next adventure. Finding the car keys under a pile of camping gear, however, is a different story. A little extra storage space could mean less time searching for equipment and more time actually getting out there.
So, Which Pretoria Suburb Would You Live With?
Everyone brings something different to the house, but there's one thing they all have in common: stuff has a habit of taking up more space than anyone planned for. Sharing a house with Pretoria's suburbs sounds like an adventure. Sharing your bedroom with all your belongings? Not so much.
That's where Rent-A-Store Hatfield comes in.
Whether you're moving, renovating, studying, growing your family or simply trying to reclaim a spare room, self-storage gives you somewhere to keep the things you need without letting them take over your home.
